Curses like Tharchiate Withering can be a pain to deal with in Baldur's Gate 3. Luckily, there is an easy way to cure yourself of these afflictions.

Curses are not very common in Baldur's Gate 3, but if you are unfortunate enough to come across one, you will need a way to remove it. The Level 3 Spell Bestow Curse can inflict multiple curses, affecting checks, saving throws, health, and/or attacks. Cursed items can provide useful bonuses at terrible cost. You may even get a particularly nasty curse called Tharchiate Withering.

Tharchiate Withering comes from the Tharchiate Codex, a cursed book on necromancy found in the Elminster Vault. Tharchiate Withering decreases your Constitution by five points. This can dangerously limit your health. Luckily, there's a simple move most players have easy access to, whether personally or through a companion. Even if, somehow, you lack the resources to cure your curse, you can find them.

How To Cure Curses In BG3

In order to get rid of curses like Tharchiate Withering in Baldur's Gate 3, you will need to know a spell called Remove Curse. Remove Curse is a Level 3 Abjuration Spell that removes curses of all types, from enemy spells to cursed items. This spell is available to Clerics, Warlocks, Wizards, and Paladins of the Oath of Devotion. It's an Action Spell, so you can quickly recover from any curse that may afflict you. You will need to be at Level 5 or higher to cast the spell yourself.

If you open the Tharchiate Withering but find yourself without the classes possessing the needed spell, don't worry. Since Shadowheart is a useful High Cleric, she knows Remove Curse. Simply direct her to use the spell, and the Curse will disappear. You could teach the spell to Gale or Wyll since they also have the needed classes to learn Remove Curse, but it is easier to bring Shadowheart along.

If you still lack a companion or class to cast Remove Curse, you will need to find a Scroll of Remove Curse. This is a rare scroll worth 100 gold pieces. You can purchase the scroll from merchants or stumble upon it while collecting loot. There is no definite area where all players can find a Scroll of Remove Curse. If you can only remove a curse by hoping you find a specific scroll somewhere in Baldur's Gate 3, you are better off avoiding the Tharchiate Codex or any items that bestow curses.
